What's on your mind?

The process differs depending on what you're proposing, but Quarter knows the way.

Rooftop solar

Panels on the roof, and a smaller bill on every levy notice. Somebody has to put it to the building first.

Chargers in the car park

Who pays to put them in, who pays for the power, and where the cable runs. Settled once, in writing.

Pets in the building

Get the dog approved by the neighbours instead of argued about in the hallway.

Change the by-laws

Smoking on the balconies, short-stay letting, noise after eleven. Write the rule you want and find out who is with you.

Fund the work before it's urgent

The roof has a number and a date on it. Better to put it in the capital works fund over ten years than in one letter.

Create your own

A blank proposal. You write the title and the motion, pick how it's decided, and the building takes it from there.

How it works

It can seem intimidating but getting things done isn't impossible. You have more power than you think, and it all starts with an idea.

Each proposal follows a clear process from an idea through to a formal vote (if that's required, it isn't always) and then it's time to make it happen.

  1. 1. Your idea

You put it in words. Nobody has to be on the committee and nothing has to be worked out yet — a sentence about what you want done for the building is where every proposal on Quarter starts.

  2. 2. Gathering support

Your neighbours read it, comment, and say whether they're behind it. Quarter counts that support against the threshold your own Act sets, shows how far it has to go, and moves the proposal on the moment it clears.

  3. 3. Voting

The proposal goes on the agenda of the building's next meeting, and Quarter tells the committee what the law asks of it — how soon the meeting has to be called, and how much notice owners get. Owners vote in Quarter with the motion in front of them, and Quarter keeps the count in the terms your own Act uses.

  4. 4. Making it happen

The outcome is recorded and stays on the proposal with the motion, the discussion and the vote. If it carried, the jobs that follow are tracked from the same page, so what the building agreed to and what has been done about it sit together.

Don't know? Find out.

Quarter reads your building's records to answer questions about your owners corporation in plain english.

What are my responsibilities on the committee?
How do I join the committee?
What are my levies being spent on?
Can I get a pet dog?
How do I get the plumbing fixed?
Who is responsible for repairing the driveway?
Someone keeps parking in my car park
